Frugal Tip Tuesday – make your own Christmas decorations

I guess this applies to other holidays as well, but since Christmas is upon us, and I blogged about my wreaths yesterday, I thought I would continue the topic.

Making your own decorations is easy and fun. Are you thinking everything will turn out looking like a child made it? It doesn’t have to be that way!

Felt is about 50 cents a sheet, sometimes even cheaper! Buying two sheets can make 4-6 ornaments! They are super easy, and no sewing is involved either! Take two contrasting colours of felt (I used light blue and white) cut out simple shapes (snowflakes, mittens, stockings) in the darker colour, and then the same shape but about 1/2 inch smaller, in the lighter colour. Glue them together. You can add sequins, or buttons, I used a little glitter glue to add a few dots of sparkle to the points on my snowflakes. Glue some ribbon on the back, and let them dry completely before hanging. Super cute, and they only take about 10 minutes! Plus, they aren’t breakable; which is important with our curious 14 month old!

I actually used a pattern for my snowflakes (Simplicity 4385) but it is not necessary! I will post pictures later, but right now the ornaments are still boxed away in the basement.

Felt, craft glue, scissors. You’re practically done already!
