Foodie Pen Pals – August 2012 reveal

As I mentioned earlier, this month I took part in Foodie Pen Pals food exchange. It is such an awesome program, and I really recommend that you give it a try! It’s such a fun way to “meet” new people who have a love for food, from all different parts of the country. I got to try some great new treats, and send a fun package to someone else. The rules are simply; you sign up, the match up list is sent out on the 5th, you must contact your match within a couple of days, find out what they like/dislike or are allergic too, shop for fun foods, and mail your package out by the 15th. On the last day of the month there is a big link up of blogs (you don’t have to be a blogger to participate), and you can share what you received.

The Lean Green Bean

I was a little nervous as this was my first month; I didn’t know what to expect from my pen pal, and I wondered what my pen pal would think of her package. But in the end, everything turned out perfectly! Here is what I received from my pen pal in Ottawa:

Such cute packaging! Flowers, ribbon, and bright cheerful tissue paper!
All my loot! So much stuff, and a super cute card!

My pen pal was Erin, from Ottawa. I was very excited when I learned this. I lived in Ottawa for a few years while I went to university. I miss that beautiful city, and couldn’t wait to see if any fun local items were sent my way. Erin didn’t disappoint! She sent me some locally made fair trade dark chocolate; it was delicious! Also in my package was some Mike and Ike Cotton candy, fuzzy peaches, blueberry jam, tea, somersault crunchy seed nuggets and butterscotch candies. Everything was fantastic, but here were my favourites:

I have seen these in stores, but never purchased them. At first I wasn’t sure about them, but after a few I got hooked. Yummy sunflower seed nuggets dusted in a sweet cinnamon coating!
These teas were life changing. Is that being dramatic? Maybe, but they were delicious! I was so sad when I finished them, and immediately went out and bought some. Chocolate mint tea is delicious!

And just like I predicted, my husband asked right away what he could eat. Even though he thinks the idea is a little silly, he sure doesn’t have a problem enjoying the treats!

I signed up again for September, and can’t wait to see who I get matched up with! Make sure you stop by The Lean Green Bean to check out all the other packages!

Another great aspect of the FPP exchange, is that if you aren’t a blogger, but get matched up with on, you can write a post yourself! Here is what Candice had to say about what I sent her:

I was so excited to get my first Foodie Pen Pals package in the mail! I’ve had many pen pals for many years, but this was an interesting new idea I hadn’t considered.Β

Β I mean, who wouldn’t love to get a box full of yummy things in the mail?

So, in my box I received a bag of Salted Sweet Potato chips, a box of Pocky, maple leaf cookie cutters, Swiss Alps Dark Chocolate (extra yum!), Peach and citrus flavored iced tea mixes, quinoa and a recipe for “Cheesy Quinoa Bites.”

Β
All I can say is YUM!

Thank you Maureen! I hope I am as lucky on my second go!

  1. There’s no reason why he can’t get a Foodie Penpal too! My mom signed up after my first month. She thought it was a really neat idea!

  2. My husband asked what I was having for breakfast the other day and I said the granola from my penpal. He said, “I wish I had a foodie penpal”. lol. I share, but I guess he’s still jealous. ;)
